Luke 10:27

Women of the Bible ~ Proverbs 31 Woman ~ Scripture Saturday ~Luke 10:27

12:00 AM

Welcome to Scripture Saturday!

As we finish our Women of the Old Testament study, I hope you have seen how, through each woman's circumstances, they have experienced God's love. God's love!

Our verse for this week is Luke 10:27..."'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'; and 'Love your neighbor as yourself'"

What I notice most about the Proverbs 31 Woman, of course after reading all that she gets done in a day...is the backdrop for all that she does get done. Her love for God.

A woman who is worthy of praise is not necessarily the woman that gets all the laundry done, keeps her house spotless, makes all her bread by hand and, of course, her clothing. The woman that gets praise is the woman who loves the Lord with her whole heart, soul, strength, and mind. Her love for Him is the backdrop for her everyday living.

So, in response to the Proverbs 31 woman, and to what we have learned from all the women in our study, let's set a goal for ourselves. Let's live each day with God as our backdrop. Let's all have an all consuming love for God. Then we will be women worthy of praise!

Have a blessed week everyone!

Esther

Women of the Bible ~ Esther ~ Scripture Saturday ~Joshua 1:9

11:00 PM

Welcome to Scripture Saturday!

Our verse for this week is Joshua 1:9..."Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."

I just love the story of Esther. I love how God reveals how much He loves using the most unlikely, ordinary people to accomplish His purposes. Esther, who is a nobody, becomes a queen, and then becomes an important part of saving her nation of people. She chooses to take a stand and she risks her life when, stepping out in faith, tells her king her deepest desire - to save her people from destruction. This is bravery and trust at its utmost.

We need to remember that Esther's position was no accident and neither is ours. God has placed us exactly where He wants us to be

You may be wondering...how would God use me to accomplish His purposes? Remember, He isn't looking for the extraordinary or perfect. He is looking for someone who is willing, who trusts in Him and will step out in faith, and asks Him..."what might you, Father, have for me to do?"

Have a blessed week everyone!

Hebrews 10:23

Women of the Bible ~ The Shunammite Woman ~ Scripture Saturday ~ Hebrews 10:23

12:00 AM

Welcome to Scripture Saturday!

Our verse for this week is Hebrews 10:23..."Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful."

The Shunammite Woman...a short story found in 2 Kings 4:8-37.  Her story will reveal how deep God's faithfulness is...how God was true to His word, fulfilling His promise to her, and keeping that promise even through an impossible situation. She experienced God's immeasurable loving-kindness and she placed her hope in Him.

We can use her story to remind us that even in the most difficult, most heart-breaking, agonizing circumstances, when you may feel that God had abandoned you, HE HAS NOT.  Trust in Him, in His word and gain assurance from the Shunammite woman. The God who had given her the promise wasn't gone. She confidently knew He wouldn't forsake her.* And we too, can claim His promise, and never lose hope in Him.

Have a blessed week everyone!

1 John 1:9

Women of the Bible ~ Bathsheba ~ Scripture Saturday ~ 1 John 1:9

12:00 AM

Welcome to Scripture Saturday!

Our verse for this week is 1 John 1:9..."If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."

Bathsheba's life is, of course, wrapped up in King David's. It is a story of sin and where it leads. David's first step toward sin leads to adultery, lying, deceit, murder, and, finally the death of a son. But it also leads to repentance, forgiveness, restoration, and blessing. God tells David and Bathsheba, through the prophet Nathan, that He loves their son Solomon.

The Bible, at times, describes the righteous as those with "clean hands." (Psalm 24:4) Cleanliness is a metaphor for being forgiven. (Job 33:9) We are often concerned with our outward "cleanliness" but are we also concerned, to a much higher degree, with the cleanliness of our hearts, our spirits?  If God could forgive David's terrible sin, don't you think He could forgive our sin, whatever it may be?*

"For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more." (Hebrews 8:12)

Hannah

Women of the Bible ~ Hannah ~ Scripture Saturday ~ Psalm 37:4

12:00 AM

Welcome to Scripture Saturday!

Our verse for this week is Psalm 37:4..."Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart."

This week we will be studying the life of Hannah and she is someone that I became very familiar with early in my Christian walk and her name was the name I chose for my third child who was born the year after I accepted Christ as my Savior.

It was this verse that I chose as my life verse during those early years and, along with my experience, was the verse I shared with my daughter-in-laws, for they too were hoping for a child. Isn't He amazing!

As we read about Hannah's life we will see that we can honestly express our desires, our pain, our frustrations and worries to God. We can pour out our soul to Him as Hannah did. God is more than willing to meet us just as He met Hannah, to meet our needs and give us grace and comfort. No other person here on earth can give us what He can. Hannah trusted God to work out the desires in her life and so can we.

Have a blessed week everyone!

Jeremiah 29:11

Women of the Bible ~ Ruth and Naomi ~ Scripture Saturday ~ Jeremiah 29:11

12:00 AM

Welcome to Scripture Saturday!

Our verse for this week is Jeremiah 29:11..."'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'"

I chose this verse for us to memorize this week because I believe it eloquently gives meaning to  both Ruth and Naomi's lives and faith in God.

We will read this week that as Naomi and Ruth, in trust, journeyed forth, God continued to work in their lives, and He does in our lives too. We can take comfort in knowing that God promises to be there for us in all our most difficult seasons. He can work through our difficulties to prosper us and give us a hope and future. For in the verses following Jeremiah 29:11, God proclaims that when you will call on me and come and pray to me,...I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:12-13)

He is faithful!

Have a blessed week everyone!

Isaiah 40:29-31

Women of the Bible ~ Rahab ~ Scripture Saturday ~ Isaiah 40:29-31

12:00 AM

Welcome to Scripture Saturday!

Our verse for this week is Isaiah 40:29-31..."He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."

I just love the story of Rahab. It's a story of God's willingness to use the less than perfect to accomplish His plan. It's a story about courage and faith. Rahab, a less than perfect woman,  chose to believe and trust in a God who is greater than all the gods that she knew. A faith that trusted Him to save her family from the enemies that were surrounding her. She had heard what God had done for the Israelites and she risked her life in an act of faith. And she was rewarded beyond her imagination...becoming the ancestor of King David and so one of Jesus' ancestors as well.

Not only did God use Rahab to accomplish His purpose, He also used a man that stuttered to speak for Him, a barren woman to be the mother of a nation, a youngest son to be the most famous king of His people...and He can and will use us. He doesn't wait till we are spotless and totally mature in our faith.  He uses us in our weaknesses. He uses ordinary people to accomplish the most extraordinary things.*

"When I am weak, then I am strong." (2 Corinthians 12:10)

Have a blessed week everyone!

Mariam

Women of the Bible ~ Miriam ~ Scripture Saturday ~ Psalm 103:2-3

12:00 AM

Welcome to Scripture Saturday!

Our verse for this week is Psalm 103:2-3..."Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all His benefits-who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases..."

This week we will hear more about Miriam, a woman who played an important part in the deliverance of God's people. She saved Moses, who went on to be their deliverer, and she was there as His people walked through the Red Sea. She loved her people and I can only imagine how joyful she must have been as she trusted and walked (perhaps ran!) along the path God made through the sea. Exodus 15 gives us the first song recorded in the Bible, penned by Moses, praising and worshipping God. It is known as the "Song of Moses and Miriam" Exodus 15.

Miriam's life however took a turn. She started to question Moses and his authority. The Lord, Who hears all, disciplined Miriam by striking her with leprosy.

The verse for this week reminds us that, although we can all recall the times in our lives that God has blessed us, answered our prayers, strengthened us, given us wisdom, loves us beyond what we can imagine, we may sin against Him. BUT GOD, perhaps through grief that brings repentance, will heal, forgive, and will restore our relationship with Him. Be certain of this...He did so for Miriam and He will for us.

Have a blessed week everyone!

Isaiah 41:10

Women of the Bible ~ Rachel ~ Scripture Saturday ~ Isaiah 41:10

12:00 AM

Welcome to Scripture Saturday!

Our verse for this week is Isaiah 41:10..."Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand."

Genesis 30:22 says, "Then God remembered Rachel, and God listened to her and opened her womb." God remembered Rachel, but He had never really forgotten her.  When the Bible uses the word remember, it doesn't mean that God forgets and then suddenly recalls - as if the all-knowing, all-powerful God of the universe suddenly hits His forehead with the heel of His hand and says, "Oops! I forgot all about Rachel, I'd better do something quickly!" (Spangler, Syswerda)

No, when the Bible says God remembers something, it expresses God's love and compassion for His people. That means us girls! The story of Rachel reminds us that God promises to never abandon us, leaving us without His support and love. He is always right there by our side. He is present and attentive, aware of our deepest desires. All we need to do is turn our eyes to Him.

Have a blessed week everyone!

Hebrews 10:23

Women of the Bible ~ Rebekah ~ Scripture Saturday ~ Hebrews 10:23

11:00 PM

Welcome to Scripture Saturday!

Our verse for this week is Hebrews 10:23..."Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful."

When we look this week at Rebekah's life we will see a woman who was hardworking and generous and a woman whose faith was so great that she left her home forever to marry a man that she had never met or seen.  But we will also see a woman that failed to trust God completely for the promise He had made to her.

If I am honest, my life can seem a lot like Rebekah's...at times my faith is strong and trusting, but at other times I can take things into my own hands. I "forget" who is really in control.

Rebekah's life lesson is evidence of God's faithfulness. God used a woman whose response to Him was far less than perfect, in order to accomplish His purposes. I am so grateful for a God that is faithful when I am not. I rejoice that He won't wait until I am perfect to involve me in His plans. He is faithful; He promises.

Have a blessed week everyone!

Psalm 130:5

Women of the Bible ~ Sarah ~ Scripture Saturday ~ Psalm 130:5

11:00 PM

Welcome to Scripture Saturday!

Our verse for this week is Psalm 130:5..."I wait for the LORD, my whole being waits, and in His Word I put my hope.”

In today’s world, living in the immediate kind of lifestyle, waiting patiently can be a difficult experience for Christians and their walk. We often think that waiting is somehow weak and perhaps lazy…but not so. We should learn from Sarah’s story…to remember God’s promises are revealed and fulfilled in His own timing.

In the story of Sarah we see that she attempted to fulfill her deep desire and God’s promise rather than waiting on God. And we see the consequence of her actions - jealousy and discord between her and Hagar.

God did fulfill Sarah’s desire and His promise…when it was His best time.

Do you have something you’re waiting for God to do? Waiting for a deep desire to be fulfilled…perhaps salvation of a loved one or a child’s return after wandering away?  Rest in who He is, rest in His promises, rest in knowing that He loves you, rest in the assurance that He will fulfill His promises to you…in His time.

Have a blessed week everyone!

Eve

Women of the Bible ~ Eve ~ Scripture Saturday ~ John 1:16

11:00 PM

Welcome to Scripture Saturday!

It is the first Saturday of our study of Old Testament Women! I am so excited to begin our scripture memorizing journey together!

Here at WitW we know the importance of memorizing scripture...

1. God's word instructs us to memorize scripture. (Colossians 3:16)

2. Memorizing scripture provides us with guidance and wisdom. (Psalm 119:105)

3. Memorizing scripture can keep us from sin and temptation. (Psalm 119:9-11)

4. Memorizing scripture helps us know the truth and can keep us from error. (Matt 22:29)

5. Memorizing scripture is our weapon against spiritual attacks. (Eph 6:13-17)

6. Memorizing scripture helps us explain the hope we have in us to others. (1 Peter 3:15)

7. Memorizing scripture increases our faith. (Romans 10:17)

(R. Sang, 2018)

So for these very reasons we will begin each week with a verse (or two) to meditate upon and memorize. It is my hope and prayer that the verse(s) chosen each week will prepare your heart for our study and will allow you to draw from His word when you need it the most.

Our verse for this week is John 1:16..."For from His fullness we all have received, grace upon grace."

Throughout Scripture, God's grace is most beautifully evident within His judgements. In Eve's story, after He speaks to Eve about the consequence of her choice, God makes a promise to her and her future generations...you are 'the mother of all human beings' (Gen 3:20). So, although there was a consequence for the choice she made, her hope returned because one day her seed would crush the serpent.

So through Eve we learn that though there may be a consequence for something you have done against the One who loves you most, and as you are asking for His forgiveness, remember what His love also brings...grace upon grace.

Have a blessed week everyone!

Psalm 73:26

Women of the Bible ~ The Women of Holy Week ~ Scripture Saturday ~ Psalm 73:26

10:00 PM

Welcome to Scripture Saturday!

Our verse for this week is Psalm 73:26..."My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever."

Through our study of Women in the Bible we saw that, besides the twelve men chosen by Jesus, women were also following Him. These women welcomed Him into their home, financed His ministry, studied His teaching, and served Him and His disciples through acts of faithfulness and devotion.  And during His final days, some were with Him through His death and burial. And joyfully, they were first to see Him resurrected.

It was through the strength of faith, and their love of Jesus in their heart, that drew them to Him. Remind yourself that in the same ways, He is drawing you closer to Him.  As our study comes to an end and as you spend time in His Word with us this week, think upon how God used these women to encourage you in your devotion and faithfulness.

Have a blessed week everyone!

3 John 1:4

Women of the Bible ~ Eunice and Lois ~ Scripture Saturday ~ 3 John 1:4

11:00 PM

Welcome to Scripture Saturday!

Our verse for this week is 3 John 1:4..."I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in truth."

This week we will read about two women, Eunice and Lois, who are apostle Timothy's mother and grandmother. Timothy's mother and his grandmother are described by Paul, in his second letter to Timothy, as both having a 'genuine faith', (2 Tim 1:5) a faith that is clearly visible to others and a faith that continually points to the Father. Timothy would have seen both his mother and grandmother living out their faith on a daily basis.

Paul also writes in his letter that the faith of Timothy's mother and grandmother is the same genuine, strong faith that he also knows dwells in Timothy. The impact Eunice and Lois had on Timothy is profound and lasting. What a wonderful legacy to leave to those that you love!

Ask God, the Holy Spirit to guide you every day so that you point your children, those that you care for, all those that you love towards Jesus...through the living of your genuine faith!

Have a blessed week everyone!

Dorcas

Women of the Bible ~ Dorcas ~ Scripture Saturday ~ Jeremiah 22:16

11:00 PM

Welcome to Scripture Saturday!

Our verse for this week is Jeremiah 22:16..."He defended the cause of the poor and needy, and so all went well. 'Is that not what it means to know me?' declares the Lord."

We will read this week that God is glorified in the story of Dorcus, not only when she was raised from the dead, but in her acts of kindness and generosity. Because she was a true and devoted follower of Jesus Christ, she adopted His views and lifestyle. She lovingly and willingly went out of her way to help others. Anyone that knew Dorcus knew who she was, whom she followed, and whom she glorified.

"Isn't that not what it means to know me?"  We mustn't think that only great, noticeable acts in our lives glorify God. He is, and will be, glorified through the simple acts of love and obedience that we do during all of our days...making a favorite meal for our family, calling a friend or neighbor to see how they are doing, praying for a loved one, friend, or co-worker.

Take a moment and ask God to show you ways in which you can act in kindness and generosity, which is your love for Him in action, so that others can clearly see Him in you. Glorify Him!

Have a blessed week everyone!

Acts 12:12

Women of the Bible ~ Mary, the mother of John Mark ~ Scripture Saturday ~ Acts 12:12

11:00 PM

Welcome to Scripture Saturday!

Our verse for this week is Acts 12:12..."...He went to the house of Mary the mother of John, also called Mark, where many people had gathered and were praying."

Let's take a moment and place this verse in context:
  • It was a difficult time of persecution for the church.
  • Mary, the mother of John Mark, still welcomed the church into her home at great personal risk.
  • Peter just escaped imprisonment and his imminent execution by Herod, begin rescued by an angel of the Lord.
  • Peter arrived at Mary's home. There he found those that he loved, and loved him, praying for his deliverance from danger.
Imagine that!  Those that you love, gathered together and praying for you. And you arrive unharmed and safe! The power of prayer!!!

As we study Mary, the mother of John Mark, we will see the commitment Mary had for this early church. We will see her willingness to sacrifice herself for others and for the sake of the Gospel.

May we all be women in the mold of Mary. Prayer warriors. Safe havens for those we love. Opening our homes to those that are in need. Women boldly proclaiming our faith in Jesus and His saving grace!

Have a blessed week everyone!

Psalm 90:14

Women of the Bible ~ Samaritan Woman at the Well ~ Scripture Saturday ~ Psalm 90:14

11:00 PM

Welcome to Scripture Saturday!

Our verse for this week is Psalm 90:14..."Satisfy us in the morning with Your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days."

The Samaritan woman visited, and carried water from this well, back to her home during the hottest hours of day, everyday, just so she would alone to do this chore. On this day, when she arrived at the well, she found a Jewish man there. As she drew water from the well the man asked her for a drink. She was astonished that a Jewish man would even speak to her, a Samaritan, and as we find out, a sinner...

And as she continued to speak with Him she declares a truth, "I know that the Messiah is coming. When He comes He will explain everything to us." Jesus then declares to her, for the first time, that He is the Messiah, "I who speak to you am He." And from that moment on her life was completely changed for He had "water" that would take away her thirst forever. A water that would fill her so full of Himself that all her needs would be met, and all her wants satisfied.

Let me ask you...are you filling yourself so full of Him everyday that your deepest needs and wants are being met by the only One that can truly satisfy your thirst?

Have a blessed week everyone!

1 Peter 1:3

Women of the Bible ~ Martha ~ Scripture Saturday ~ 1 Peter 1:3

11:00 PM

Welcome to Scripture Saturday!

Our verse for this week is 1 Peter 1:3..."Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead..."

Before I was a believer I struggled with death. The awesomeness and hopelessness of it.  Thinking upon it, something that was not in my control and something I could not understand, brought me deep dread. And then, as a believer, I read this account...

"When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went and met Him, while Mary stayed at home.

Martha said to Jesus, 'Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But even now I know that God will give you whatever you ask of Him'. Jesus said to her 'Your brother will rise again'. Martha said to Him 'I know he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.'

Jesus said to her 'I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in Me even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?'

She said to him 'Yes Lord, I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the One who is coming into the world.'"

Jesus is declaring to those that were near Him then, and for believers today, that He alone is the resurrection and the life. And Martha, confirming her belief in Him and who He is, shows us that if we believe in Him, even if we die, we live. This was Mary's comfort, and it is ours! Through Jesus, death no longer has any power over us. This is the promise that I trust and claim...death has no power over me!!

Have a blessed week everyone!

Mary of Bethany

Women of the Bible ~ Mary of Bethany ~ Scripture Saturday ~ Matthew 26:10

11:00 PM

Welcome to Scripture Saturday!

Our verse for this week is Matthew 26:10..."Aware of this, Jesus said to them, 'Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a beautiful thing to me.'"

A group of us from WitW are reading a book together, The Good and Beautiful Community by James Bryan Smith. In the first chapter, Mr. Smith speaks about how Christians should all be "peculiar people" (1 Peter 2:9). In this verse we see Mary being a "peculiar" person - she was doing something different from the ordinary, the common, from everyone else. She took an expensive jar of perfume and poured it over Jesus' head in an act of worship.

Jesus knew the true love in Mary's heart and it was an encouragement to Him at this hour of stress, at a time when He was aware of so many who hated Him. It was a beautiful and "peculiar" act.

The difference between us and the world isn't just how we live, but why we live this way. We do this because we are followers of Jesus Christ. He is our teacher, and the Holy Spirit is our strength and comforter.

As you are memorizing our verse for this week, spend time praising Him for all the beautiful things He has done for you. Then honor Him by giving Him something precious in your life - even the smallest gesture can become beautiful to God.

Have a blessed week everyone!
