Scripture Saturday ~ Exodus 15:2 ~ Celebration~ Our strength, our defense, our salvation!

12:00 AM

Saturday, August 31, 2019

Welcome to Scripture Saturday!

This coming week's memory verse is Exodus 15:2...

The LORD is my strength and my defense; He has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise Him, my father's God, and I will exalt Him. (NIV)

God is our strength and our defense, and He is also our song. His strength and His defense will never let us down and we can praise Him continuously for it!

God was salvation to His people during the time of Exodus, and they praised Him for His enduring love and protection. Today, we can do the same...because of what His Son did for us on the cross.

When we are weak, He is our strength. When we fall, He is there to pick us up. When we face our enemy He is there to deliver us with His truth, His promises and His love. We will praise Him, we will exalt Him, for He is our God!

Sing a song of praise to your God today – whether out loud or silently in your heard – for He is worthy of our praise!

Tell Your Story

9:59 AM

In Mark 16:15, Jesus commands His disciples, “Go into all the world and preach the the gospel to all creation.” This is a command He gives to us as well. But witnessing isn’t always easy. And you’re anything like me you can come up with a million reasons why it’s better to leave that job to others.

I used to tell myself things like, “Who’s going to listen to me?” Or, “I don’t know enough scripture to counter any objections.” And, “I don’t feel comfortable talking with people, I’m too introverted.” Then I realized two things. First, if I love God then I should want His will to be done. And His will is, “not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.” (2 Pet. 3:9) And second, it isn’t as complicated as I made it out to be.

God hasn’t given everyone the calling of being a preacher. But He has given us all the calling of sharing our stories. And there is no greater testimony than when we share our hearts, our love for God, and all that He has done in our lives. But still you may be saying to yourself, “Will my story really have any effect or change a heart?” To that I say, think about the demoniac in Luke chapter 8.

After being healed by the Lord, Jesus commands him to return home and tell everyone about what God did for him. (Luke 8:39) And so he went about telling his story to all who would listen. And the result? When Jesus returned several months later, thousands came to hear His teachings. Who knows how many of those came because of the story of the demoniac and how his life was forever changed by the love of God.

It isn’t our job to save souls, but it is our job to plant the seeds. So go and tell your story to all who will listen. And on that glorious day when we meet Jesus face to face who knows, we may just meet others there who because of our testimony gave their lives to God! And won’t it be wonderful to hear our Savior say, “Well done good and faithful servant.”

Chunky Raspberry and Peanut Butter Crumble

Chunky Raspberry and Peanut Butter Crumble

6 cups fresh or frozen raspberries
3/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 lemon, juiced
1/2 cup quick-cooking oats
1/3 cup chunky peanut butter
1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1/8 teaspoon kosher salt

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Place the berries in a medium sauce pan and heat over medium high. Stir in 1 tablespoon of the flour, 1/4 cup of the sugar, 1/4 teaspoon of the cinnamon and the lemon juice. Cook until all the juices release, 5 minutes. Pour berries into a 9x9 baking dish and set aside. To make the crumble topping, in a medium bowl combine the oats, peanut butter, brown sugar, the remaining 1/4 cup granulated sugar and the remaining 3/4 cup flour. Mix with a spoon until combined. Pour the butter into the dry crumble mixture and stir to achieve a crumble consistency. Spoon dollops of the crumble mixture over the berry mixture. Bake until the topping is crisp, 20 minutes. Cool the crumble for 5 minutes, then serve.

Lifting My Hands in Praise!

10:30 AM

Trials are never fun!

They can take on many forms, but one thing they all have in common... well perhaps two commonalities is that; they aren't meant to be pleasant, but they are meant to grow our faith!

Hi All,

I've been walking through a really tough trial for almost two years now, and I haven't always handled it perfectly, but The Lord has given me some amazing revelations through it that I want to share in order to help all of us bring God glory while plowing through the trials we face!!

I believe He's taught me an important secret and it starts with Moses in Exodus 17:10-16,
So Joshua did as Moses said, and fought with Amalek; and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the hilltop. 11 Now when Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed, and when he lowered his hand [due to fatigue], Amalek prevailed. 12 But Moses’ hands were heavy and he grew tired. So they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. Then Aaron and Hur held up his hands, one on one side and one on the other side; so it was that his hands were steady until the sun set. 13 So Joshua overwhelmed and defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.14 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write this in the book as a memorial and recite it to Joshua, that I will utterly wipe out the memory of Amalek from under heaven.” 15 And Moses built an altar and named it The Lord Is My Banner; 16 saying, “The Lord has sworn [an oath]; the Lord will have war against Amalek from generation to generation.”

According to Jewish traditions, Amalek represents pure evil - this world and the flesh and all that is opposed to God. So, we can see here that this passage is a picture of a spiritual battle all of us will face from time to time.
And when do we usually lift up our hands (our countenance) to God, but in praise, right? There is amazing power in praise! But it also takes amazing faith to praise God in the midst of a trial, doesn't it?
There is so much I'd like to share on the power in praise, but for today let me just say, as long as Moses lifted His arms Israel's army was winning! Don't loose sight of this truth!
BUT sometimes even the greatest spiritual leaders grow weary and need the help of others to keep going! To keep praising God in the midst of the toughest battles we need one another to stay strong!
And then God gave me these verses in Hebrews 12:12-13,
Therefore lift up your tired hands, and strengthen your weak knees. Make straight paths for your feet, so that those who are weak and lame will not fall, but rather be healed.

Our trials aren't only meant for us!! Did you catch that? God is using our trials to grow our faith; strengthen our arms (for praise) and our legs to keep going in order to help others! Just how cool is that!?

As long as we're in this world we'll be dealing with Amalek and our most powerful weapons to experience the most incredible victories is our arms (or countenance) lifted high in praise and others to help us keep them raised when we grow weary.

Blessings,
sue
