Today's Reading: Isaiah 41:10
So Do Not Fear, For I Am With You; Do Not Be Dismayed, For I Am Your God. I Will Strengthen You And Help You; I Will Uphold You With My Righteous Right Hand
“Anxiety is blatant distrust of the power and love of God.”
― John F. MacArthur Jr., Anxious for Nothing: God's Cure for the Cares of Your Soul
The two days in every week that we should not worry about...
There are two days in every week that we should not worry about, two days that should be kept free from fear and apprehension.
One is yesterday with its mistakes and cares. Its faults and blunders, its aches and pains. Yesterday has passed forever beyond our control. All the money in the world cannot bring back yesterday. We cannot undo a single act we performed. Nor can we erase a single word we’ve said. Yesterday is gone.
The other day we shouldn’t worry about is tomorrow. Tomorrow is beyond our control. Tomorrow’s sun will rise either in splendor, or behind a mask of clouds but it will rise. And until it does, we have no stake in tomorrow, for it is yet unborn.
This leaves only one day. Today. Any person can fight the battles of just one day. It is only when we add the burdens of yesterday and tomorrow that we break down. It is not the experience of today that drives people mad, it is the remorse of bitterness for something which happened yesterday and the dread of what tomorrow may bring.-(Author Unknown)
“The Lord said you have enough to deal with today. Apply today’s resources to today’s needs or you will lose today’s joy.”
― John F. MacArthur Jr., Anxious for Nothing: God's Cure for the Cares of Your Soul
How to Feel Less Anxious about the Future
“Some people assume worry is the result of too much thinking. Actually, it’s the result of too little thinking in the right direction.”
“We allow our daily concerns to turn into worry and therefore sin when our thoughts become focused on changing the future instead of doing our best to handle our present circumstances.”
― John F. MacArthur Jr., Anxious for Nothing: God's Cure for the Cares of Your Soul
Anxiety will grab us whenever we fail to focus on God's love and care for us, when we fear what might be rather that what is real and true.
“Whenever you catch your mind wandering back into the forbidden territory (and you can be sure that it will—more frequently at first, until you retrain and discipline it …) change the direction of your thought. Do not allow yourself one conscious moment of such thought. Instead, crisply ask God to help you to refocus upon those things that fit into Paul’s list recorded in Philippians 4:8–9. The attitude must grow within you that says: “So if I have a fear experience, so what? It’s unpleasant, it’s disturbing, but I’ll live through it—at least I always have before.” When you honestly can think this way without becoming anxious, you will know that the change has been made― John F. MacArthur Jr., Anxious for Nothing: God's Cure for the Cares of Your Soul
Here’s what God says about yesterday:
“…forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead.” (Phil.3:13)
“Forget the former things, do not dwell on the past.” (Isaiah 43:18)
Here’s what God says about tomorrow:
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” (Matt.6:34)
“Do not boast about tomorrow for you do not know what a day may bring forth.” (Prov.27:1)
Here’s what God says about today:
“This is the day the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24)
Today's Scripture {Isaiah 41:10} is such a beautiful promise from the Lord that assures us that no matter what we are to do, or what we may have to go through...No matter what the future might bring, He will always give us the ability and strength to overcome. He'll give us the victory.
God will never lead us into a situation only to leave us there to face it alone in our own weak, human power.
Jesus gave us, His children, three reasons for not worrying about this life: It is unnecessary because of our Father, it is uncharacteristic because of our faith, and it is unwise because of our future.”
― John F. MacArthur Jr., Anxious for Nothing: God's Cure for the Cares of Your Soul
“A basic principle of spiritual life is that we are not earthbound people. Fully trusting our heavenly Father dispels anxiety. And the more we know about Him, the more we will trust Him.”
― John F. MacArthur Jr., Anxious for Nothing: God's Cure for the Cares of Your Soul
“When you worry, you are saying in effect, “God, I just don’t think I can trust You.” Worry strikes a blow at the person and character of God.”
― John F. MacArthur Jr., Anxious for Nothing: God's Cure for the Cares of Your Soul
