Welcome to Scripture Saturday!

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding. His praise endures forever! (Psalm 111:10)

Knowing that God is to be feared shows me that He is worthy of my obedience and I will live according to His Word.

Did you notice in our reading for this week that the psalmist repeated the phrase, 

…those who fear Him, (111:5)

…the man who fears the LORD, (112:1)

…You who fear of the LORD, (115:11)

…those who fear the LORD. (115:13)

I took a moment to review what it really means to fear God…

• Fearing God is to appreciate His character. God is loving, merciful and forgiving; but He also is holy, just and righteous. 
• Fearing God means to be in reverent awe of His holiness - to honor Him as the God of great glory, majesty, purity and power.
• Fearing God means to be moved to believe and trust in Him alone.
• Fearing God can cause us to be afraid, especially if we are caught on the wrong side of God’s justice. He is angry about sin and has the power to punish those who stand against Him and break HIs laws.

When we fear God we are obedient, we grow closer to Him each day through sanctification, we worship Him with our whole being, we live in awe of Him and His promises, and we live with confidence of our eternal reward…to be in His presence for all eternity!
