Week Fifty...

Welcome!  We pray that you have all had a precious time worshipping the Lord this morning!  Below you will find some thought provoking questions that will provide you a starting point to your journal writing to complete this week.  We hope that you will find this time soul satisfying!

Our reading this week was Hebrews 7 - 1 Peter 5...

1. When have you struggled with perfectionism? Allow the power of Christ’s perfect and sufficient sacrifice to release you from the tyranny of “perfection.” List up a praise of thanksgiving for His holiness.

Just think how much more the blood of Christ will purify our hearts from deeds that lead to death so that we can worship the living God. For by the power of the eternal Spirit, Christ offered Himself to God as a perfect sacrifice for our sins. (Hebrews 9:14)

2. Besides Jesus, what biblical character do you must admire? What about that person’s faith walk encourages you? How can you use that person as a model for your own journey?

Do not throw away this confident trust in the LORD, no matter what happens. Remember the great reward it brings you! Patient endurance is what you need now, so you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that He has promised. (Hebrews 10:35-36)

3. How does you approach to life reflect the truth that Christ is with you, within you, behind you, before you, beside you, beneath you, and above you? Ask Him for courage and protection as you serve wherever He leads you.

And take courage, for the coming of the LORD is near. (James 5:8)

Week Forty...

Welcome!  We pray that you have all had a precious time worshipping the Lord this morning!  Below you will find some thought provoking questions that will provide you a starting point to your journal writing to complete this week.  We hope that you will find this time soul satisfying!

Our reading this week was Luke 8:40 - Luke 19...

1. Which of life’s details tend to distract you from God? What could happen if you let them go to spend time with Jesus? What blessings might you receive from Him in exchange? How can you arrange your schedule to set aside time each day for uninterrupted communion with the LORD?

But the LORD said to her, “My dear Martha, you are so upset over all these details! There is really only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it-and I won’t take it away from her.” (Luke 10:41-42)

2. Think of several images of protection (for example, a parent holding the hand of a child; a friend assisting an elderly person; or a  mother bird feeding her young), and describe one in detail. Let these images cause you to remember how Jesus longs to gather and protect you.

O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones God’s messengers! How often I have wanted to gather your children together as a hen protects her chicks beneath her wings, but you wouldn’t let me. (Luke 13:34)

3. What kinds of doubts and trials threaten to erode your faith? When have you felt spiritually weak? Ask God to point you to His promises and to strengthen your faith.

One day the apostles said to the LORD, “We need more faith; tell us how to get it.” (Luke 17:5)

Week Thirty-four

Welcome!  We pray that you have all had a precious time worshipping the Lord this morning!  Below you will find some thought provoking questions that will provide you a starting point to your journal writing to complete this week.  We hope that you will find this time soul satisfying!

Our reading this week was Micah 1 - Zechariah 4

1. What is the most difficult persecution you have experienced as a believer? How did it affect your faith? Pray for protection, and praise God for His ultimate victory.

True, many nations have gathered together against you, calling for your blood, eager to gloat over your destruction. But they do not know the LORD’s thoughts or understand His plan. (Micah 4:11-12)

2. Who do you absolutely love to be around? How does it feel to know that God feels that way about you? Today, enjoy God’s presence, keeping in mind that you make Him want to sing.

For the LORD your God has arrived to live among you. He is a mighty savior. He will rejoice over you with great gladness. With His love, He will calm all your fears. He will exult over you by singing a happy song. (Zephaniah 3:17)

3. What is on your desk or on your to-do list that is overwhelming you right now? Remember God’s words of encouragement, and renew your commitment to “take courage and work” as an act of worship.

Take courage, all you people still left in the land, says the LORD. Take courage and work, for I am with you, says the LORD Almighty. (Haggai 2:4)

Resting In His Shadow {Psalm 91}

12:00 AM

O to have beautiful bronzed skin that tans to a golden brown in the sun! Unfortunately, I could faithfully sunbath all summer long and I’d never have that gorgeous tan I covet! My skin only turns different shades of red, and a few of my granddaughters are even fairer than I am.

A few years ago our whole family took a summer vacation to the beach.  Unfortunately, we hadn’t planned ahead very well and came with only one tiny beach umbrella for 11 people!

It was late in the day when I happened to look down at our fairest grandchild and noticed that her skin was beginning to burn in spite of all the sunscreen we had repeatedly lathered on her. She was having such a great time playing in the sand with her cousin that I hated to call her over to sit under the umbrella, so I took a beach towel, wrapped it behind me like a cape, held the two top corners in my hands, stretched out my arm and stood there between her and the sun, to shield her from anymore harmful rays. I didn’t think much about it at the time, for I was enjoying watching them play together, but sometime later as I began to read,

“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” Psalm 91:1
the picture of what I had done that moment came flooding back, and I knew God had reminded me of that moment to demonstrate that He does the same for us.

Can you picture your heavenly Father standing over you, protecting you, because He wants you to continue enjoying what you’re doing? We may not always sense His protection, and probably forget He’s there at times, or even wonder if He's left us to fend for ourselves in some tough situations, but He’s there! He has to be because of His character!  He can't forget us if we belong to Him, for I know His love is far greater than my love for my granddaughter, though I can’t imagine what that must look like.

Psalm 91 speaks mostly about spiritual warfare and it happens to be my favorite Psalm for it also speaks of His care for us. The best way to remember it is by remembering: when in need call 9-1-1. No matter what difficulties we’ll face today, God is a place of refuge we can run to, and a shelter from harm.

The more we break down this Psalm the more precious it becomes! For example the word “dwell” used in verse 1 actually means, “to take up permanent residence.” Here, He’s reminding us to stay in His presence, for it’s a permanent place. His Word says if we do that, we will “rest” in the very "shadow” of Almighty God!

If you look up the definition of, “shadow” you might just find, a dark area or shape produced by a body coming between rays of light and a surface. (You must know I had to smile when I saw that) We are all pretty familiar with the effects from the sun. It can produce burning heat, harm our skin and wipe out our energy. The harm diminishes when we move into the shadows, OR the shadow comes to stand between us and the sun. I love knowing He comes to shelter us from pain; be it physical or verbal, His shadow diminishes what is actually felt in its intensity. Just knowing He's in control brings such a comfort and peace.

This entire chapter of Psalm 91 is filled with His goodness and the power of God, and offers great reminders that He is faithfully at work on behalf of those who love Him.  But it's the end of this Psalm that I don't want you to miss, for He gives us 8 reasons why we have no reason to fear:

“Because he loves me, says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.  He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.  With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.” Psalm 91:14-16

Because we love Him, He will,

-  Rescue us (deliver)
-  Protect us
-  Answer us (respond)
-  Be with us in trouble
-  Deliver us and bring us to safety
-  Honor us
-  Satisfy us with long life (abundance life according to John 10:10)
-  Show us His salvation."

How amazing is that? We are blessed for seeking Him, and choosing to walk in His ways. In the midst of this dark world, I can’t imagine living without Him. The truth is, this world has been growing darker since sin first entered it, yet God is here to remind us that we can walk, work, even play assured that He will always be there to remind us that we're not alone.

And though He never tells us that we won't face hard times, He does say He'll be with us through it to protect, and help us make it to the other side. We may never fully know this side of heaven, how much He has sheltered us from in this life, but I look forward to finding out, don’t you?

Until then, I know He can be trusted to stand over me and be my Shield and yours.

Blessings!

Week Twenty

Welcome!  We pray that you have all had a precious time worshipping the Lord this morning!  Below you will find some thought provoking questions that will provide you a starting point to your journal writing to complete this week.  We hope that you will find this time soul satisfying!

Our reading this week was
Psalm 54 - 78...

1. Fear that grows out of a lack of faith in God’s protections is not just a nuisance - it’s sin. What circumstances or relationships cause you the most worry? List your five greatest fears and pray through each one, asking yourself, “Why should I fear?” God is supreme.

But when I am afraid, I put my trust in You, O God, I praise your Word. I trust in God, so why should I be afraid? What can mere mortals do to me? (Psalm 56:3-4)

2. What is the single greatest desire of your heart? What is the hope that gives you strength and encouragement throughout the day? What stands in your way of sincerely praying this prayer of the psalm writer? Ask God to be the strength of your heart.

Whom have I in heaven but you? I desire you more than anything on earth. My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; He is mine forever. (Psalm 73:25-26)

3. Describe in detail a time when you were 100 percent certain of God’s miraculous presence and work in your life. Put a mental bookmark in that day or week or year. When you face trail or hardship and simply can’t find reason to worship God, think back to that time and worship with hope.

O God, your ways are holy. Is there any god as mighty as You? You are the God of miracles and wonders! You demonstrate your awesome power among the nations. You have redeemed your people by your strength, the descendants of Jacob and of Joseph by your might. (Psalm 77: 13-15)

Songs of Praise {Psalm 57:1 - 59:17}

12:30 AM

Psalm 57 – 59

May 15, 2018

“Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy!  I look to you for protection.”  Psalm 57:1a

I have prayed this a lot lately.  I’ve been in a bit of a rough patch between my physical healing and my job.   And God has used every morning with Him to instruct me.  So much so, I actually had to get a bigger journal.

“He will send help from heaven to save me, rescuing me from those who are out to get me.  My God will send forth his unfailing love and faithfulness.”  57:3

For some reason, I just could not begin writing for this post until Sunday.  Usually I’ve read the chapters a couple of times and done some research on certain verses.  But, I waited.

“I will thank you, Lord, in front of all the people.  I will sing your praises among the nations.”  57:9

I had a couple unexpected things occur over the weekend that have me singing songs of praise.  Two weeks ago I wrote about waiting and expecting on the Lord.  And waiting can take a long time.  Trusting in God’s timing can be very unnerving and our flesh likes to take over.   I’ve had my share of expectations during my life, and I’ve recently discovered that I cannot expect from anyone except the Lord.   Last week I told you about some unconfessed sin which has allowed me to enter into the Lord’s protection.

“I wait quietly before God, for my salvation comes from Him.  He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will never be shaken.  I wait quietly before God, for my home is in Him.”  Psalm 62:1-2, 5.

As I laid my requests out before the Lord recently, I asked for a blessing.  And for those of you who know me, you are probably thinking I’d be telling you that I have a surgery date, or that my knee has healed.  God knows exactly what we need and exactly when we need it!  And boy, did He bless me this weekend.

Sure it was Mother’s Day and all, but I received a gift and a card from someone I didn’t expect.  In fact, she called me beautiful and my heart has been soaring ever since.  But that’s not all.  One of my children shared with me that after a couple of trials of getting into a relationship with another person, he will not pursue another young lady unless she has placed Christ first in her life.  This child of mine has always had a very firm foundation and I tend to learn a thing or two from him, but the connection we had during our conversation simply made my heart soar even higher!  At this point I could have not expected anything else.

I know God has been listening to me through these difficult months.  He has protected me from some very challenging trials.  It was just this past weekend though, that I asked for a blessing.  Sure, I know, He is enough.  He is all I need.  But He was not done with His blessings.  More children and more words and gifts of gratitude were expressed like I’ve never received before.

My circumstances are still the same.  However, God answered many of my prayers in such a short period of time that I cannot even begin to share them all with you.  It’s like He took them all and showed me just how powerful He truly is.
