Self-discipline-choosing
to do what you should do, not what you want to do; choosing what is wise
instead of what is easy.
Read
Colossians 2
It is always
a joy to meet up with an old friend. Do
you pick up where you left off, or are things very different from when you
spent time together?
Paul in this
chapter is rejoicing because even though he is absent from the Colossians, he
hears that they have good discipline and are stable in their faith.
How can we
have good discipline and be stable in our faith?
1-
You
have to receive Christ as your Lord and Savior.
It is only through Him that we have eternal salvation and the
forgiveness of our sins.
In Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in
bodily form and in Him you have been made complete and He is the head over all
rule and authority. :9-10
2-
Be
rooted, built up and established in your faith in Christ. Get into His Word each day, spend time with
Him reading and praying through the scriptures.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be
transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and
acceptable and perfect.
Romans 12:2
3-
Overflowing
with thankfulness. In everything give thanks; for this is
God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. I Thess. 5:18
4-
Don’t
let the world or people deceive you through traditions of men and
philosophies. Take care, brethren, that there not be in any one of you an
evil, unbelieving heart that falls away from the living God. But encourage one
another day after day, as long as it is still called “Today,” so that none of
you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. Hebrews 3:12-13
Just recently my husband
and I met up with very dear friends, who we spent much time together as
families. They moved away but we have
from time to time kept in touch. What a
joy to our hearts and theirs that our faith in Him is so much stronger than
before. It was sad to hear that several
friends of both of ours have walked away from their marriages and the
Lord.
I believe that we have to
be conscious everyday of our lives to determine to spend time with Him, reading,
memorizing scripture and praying! To
have fellowship with other believers and not get caught up in every whim of the
world.
Encourage one another today!
